Goal Setting Steps - What are the Proper Steps to Setting Goals?

Are you trying to improve yourself? This could include a career change, more education, working out, or many other things. It is easier to improve in any area of your life if you have goals to shoot for and if you are able to stay focused on your goals. Here are the goal setting steps you need to follow.

First, you need to figure out what you want and set a reasonable amount of time to get to what you want. If you want to get a bachelors degree, then figure out how you can achieve this and how long it will take. If you are after a healthier lifestyle, then figure out how long it will take you to get to a certain point and set your goals accordingly.

Second, you need to break your goals down into smaller goals. Maybe if you are after a bachelors degree you can break it down into what you need to achieve each year to get there, then into what you need to achieve each semester, and last what you need to achieve each week and day (homework, studying, tests, papers) in order to get there. This will help you realize your goal by taking smaller steps towards your ultimate goal.

Last, you need to have the focus to achieve you goals.

F - Find the projec that will move you closer to your goal (this could be homework, a test, a class, a workout, making a sale, or anything that you need to accomplish to get closer to your ultimate goal.)

O - Occupy yourself with nothing except the project until you complete it. (in other words do not sit down and do half of a homework assignment. Sit down and finish the entire assignment before moving on to the next one.)

C - Concentrate on the tasks that make up that single project

U - Understand that nothing else is more important

S - Succeed

This is a basic model that helps because you cannot go into a smaller task that is going to lead you to your goal without giving it your full attention. When you sit down to work on an assignment or you go to the gym to do a workout, you need to complete that task before you move on to another one. This is by far the most important of the goal setting steps.
