Step #1

This is the step that requires you to get your credit report. You are entitled to one copy from each of the reporting agencies each year. You can also get a copy if you were turned down for financing recently. This is something you need to do and this is the first thing you need to do and you should do it right away. You can get it online or you can get it through the mail, even over the phone. This is possible and you need to do this first.

Step #2

The second step is to get your debts in order. Everything that you are currently paying on needs to stay current and goes top of the list. The next debts to go on the list are those that are deliquent and they need to go from smallest to largest. This is the order that you will deal with them in and there is a reason behind this. It is not the size of your debts that hurts your credit so much, but the number of debts you have.

Step #3

This is when you pay off your debts in order from smallest to largest until they are all paid off. You will also want to pull your credit once every 3 months or so in order to make sure that your debts are removed as they are paid off. If they are not you can either contact the creditor and ask them to report it correctly or you can dispute the debt by writing a letter to the credit report. This will allow you to get it off your credit and improve credit score.
